Join us for the “Tech Walk-in Open Session,” a friendly gathering where LAMP patrons can share ideas about making technology easier for everyone to use. Library staff will be on hand to assist with technology needs and facilitate open conversation. Bring your thoughts and experiences as we chat about tools that help people with different needs. Once a month, LAMP Pittsburgh is holding a Tactile and Braille Tech Discussion Group. The participants engage in an open discussion; experience embossed, Swell Form, and 3-D-printed items; and explore their ideas and interests on the topic of tactile accessibility. Those who gather also learn about the tools and software used to produce tactile objects.

Have you ever listened to the universe? NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory is a telescope designed to detect X-ray emissions—data that some scientists then process and interpret using sonification, which turns large data sets into sound. On Wednesday, February 5, the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS)—in collaboration with NASA and the Smithsonian Institution—will host a virtual panel of scientists who will discuss the Chandra X-ray Observatory project and how astronomers with visual impairments pursue their careers. Explore an array of unique reused materials and learn how to create beautiful works of art, craft projects, and anything you can dream up while saving useful materials from the landfill. The Advocacy & Advisory group is a group of LAMP patrons that meets on site in Pittsburgh or virtually to share ideas, provide advice and help to keep LAMP moving forward. Please register to receive a Zoom invitation.
