Grab a Book, Get Warm and Escape the Winter Cold!
by: Laura Hughes
February is upon us, and winter is still here. For those of you who, like me, are not especially inclined to love the cold outdoors, this season offers an invitation to hunker down and embrace the art of cozy culture. Warm blankets, a dedication to pajamas, slippers and a hot beverage of choice are all helpful in this endeavor, but for me, winter is made for books. It’s evident that many of our LAMP patrons agree, as the roster for our Winter Reading Program keeps growing. We welcome everyone to join and share their literary journey with us. You’ll receive a small gift for signing up, and one for logging a book. Plus, we will wrap up the program with a drawing for a Grand Prize.
For readers who are looking for some extra reading motivation, LAMP created a list of optional challenges:
• Read a book related to your New Years Resolution.
• Read a book from the LAMP winter reading list.
• Call LAMP and share the title of one of your favorite winter reads with a Reader Advisor.
• Finish a book that you have been wanting to read since last winter.
• Have a mini book club; Encourage a friend to read the same book as you this winter.
Have you always meant to get around to reading Ulysses? (It’s only 30 hours long! DB 19994) Didn’t your friend say she also wanted to read the new Louise Penny? (The Grey Wolf, DB 125318) How about reaching out to LAMP to ask a Reader’s Advisor for their favorite winter reading recommendation? (I’ll give you this one, The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper, DB 08054) You can pick a title from the LAMP winter reading booklist, or find a book that will help you achieve your goals for the New Year (for a resolution to boost your writing practice, Anne Lamott’s Bird by Bird is a gem, DB 40554).
To register or log books for LAMP’s Winter Reading Program, you can call 800-242-0586 or email info@mylamp.org. Stay cozy!
